Why two numbers
Aircraft noise can be measured two legitimate ways:
1. Leq_dn is the regulatory standard — the same methodology basis used across the EU, including Lisbon Airport's own official noise report. It averages sound energy over a full day/night cycle, weighting night events +10dB.
2. Peak + duration is what Lisbon Finals measures directly — how loud each individual pass gets, and how long it stays above 70dB, repeated roughly — times a day.
Neither is "more correct": Leq_dn is the number regulators use to set limits; peak+duration is closer to what a person actually experiences during a single overflight.

LVA — Italian standard (OpenSky-verified)—
LVA (Livello di Valutazione Aeroportuale) is Italy's national event-based airport noise standard — instead of averaging all ambient sound, it counts and weights individual aircraft noise events. This event-based philosophy isn't unique to Italy: many countries use similar approaches (SEL — Sound Exposure Level, an international ISO standard used by the FAA, ICAO and UK airports; threshold-crossing event counts elsewhere). Italy has simply codified it into this specific national regulation.

Reading the gap
A single loud pass barely moves a 24-hour Leq_dn average — but it's very much part of the lived experience
below the flight path. That's the point of showing both: Leq_dn tells you what the
regulator sees over a full day; peak + duration tells you what any single overflight actually
sounded like.
